Elastomeric Coatings

Elastomeric Roof Coatings have been used in Arizona for many years. Elastomeric Coatings provide a monolithic (seamless) roof surface that provides superior water resistance as well as reflectivity from the damaging ultra violet rays.

It's Energy Efficient!
Studies have shown that when Elastomeric Coating is used on a roof, energy costs can be reduced by as much as 50% and pay for itself within the first 5 years. Elastomeric Coatings can also extend the life of your existing roof by reducing surface temperatures reflecting as much as 90% of the suns heat. The results…lower energy costs, more efficient air conditioning unit, easy maintenance, and a cooler home.

When are Elastomeric Coatings used?
Elastomeric Coating can be applied to any roof type, including Polyurethane Foam, Built-Up Roofing and Asphalt Shingles. The application of Elastomeric Coating extends the life of roofing materials by reflecting the suns ultra violet rays. Elastomeric Coating provides water resistance across the entire surface of your roof and allows the water to shed properly to your draining areas. Elastomeric Coating is not counted as a layer under Arizona's building code allowing only two roof layers.

When Elastomeric Coating is applied in conjunction with Tie-Tex Fabric, the result is an even stronger, more durable surface. See our 4-Layer Roofing page for more information.

Elastomeric Coating is a requirement for Polyurethane Foam roofs as the Polyurethane Foam itself is not ultra violet ray resistant. Polyurethane Foam roofs must be washed and recoated every 3-5 years with Elastomeric Coating. We recommend having a Customer 1st Roofing representative inspect your Polyurethane Foam roof every year for defects and abnormal wear and tear, and clean the roof of debris.

Coating Polyurethane Foam Roofs
After the Polyurethane Foam has been applied, it is then followed by spraying a base coat which is followed by back-rolling, creating an even coat. After allowing the base coat to set up we then apply an additional coat of Elastomeric Coating to the entire roof surface. This will protect your foam roof from the damaging ultra violet rays and create a walkable surface to allow for proper maintenance. Without properly applying coating within 48 hours after foam is sprayed, your new foam roof will become susceptible to harmful UV rays which will start to break down the foam's integrity.

Elastomeric Roof coatings can vary in quality depending on which brand is used. At Customer 1st Roofing we use only high quality Coatings to help ensure your roof will last throughout the years only using reputable companies with proven quality products.

How does a Roofing Contractor determine how much Elastomeric Coating is used?
Elastomeric Coating is calculated and applied by the number of gallons per square (10' x 10' area). Typical applications are done at 1.5 or 2+ gallons per square depending on what the Roofing Contractor offers as well the kind of warranty needed to do the job. The bigger the warranty, the more gallons applied. It is very important to know the amount of gallons being applied to your roof, because the amount of gallons will determine how long the roof will last.
